How to become an army officer
The Army carries out tasks given to it by the democratically elected Government of the United Kingdom (UK).
Its primary task is to help defend the interests of the UK, which consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This may involve service overseas as part of a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Force or any other multi-national deployment. Soldiers may also be deployed on United Nations (UN) operations and used to help in other emergencies.
To Become An Army officer you need to demonstrate the following qualities:
- strong leadership skills
- have a high level of self discipline
- dedicated to fighting for your country
- the ability to remain calm and act well under pressure
- be able to think of your feet especially in times of combat
- motivating and bringing the best out of your team

The Band is stationed at Wellington Barracks, close to Buckingham Palace, in central London. Members of the Band are able to keep in contact with the remainder of the Regiment, wherever it is serving, through entertainment visits and in the participation of all the major events closely associated with the Grenadier Guards.
The First Battalion is made up of three rifle companies, The Queen's Company, No 2 Company and The Inkerman Company, and Support Company consisting of a recce platoon, an anti-tank platoon, a mortar platoon and a machine gun platoon. Nijmegen Company, which is stationed in Wellington Barracks, London, upholds the customs and traditions of the Second Battalion, and performs a variety of ceremonial duties.
The modern regiment, converted to a Light Infantry Regiment on 22nd July 2005. It comprises one operational battalion, which is at the forefront of British Military operations. Currently based in Hounslow, the battalion will move to Chester in July, 2005.
Rather that take the easy option and go for a run, the Sappers from 63 Training and Support Squadron, Royal Engineers, built a mile’s worth of state-of-the-art bridging over a 30-hour period between the 14th and 15th of July.
